Juneteenth Art Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Mildred Howard
On June 16, 2024, Berkeley celebrated Juneteenth with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Mildred Howard’s new sculpture, “Delivered, Mable’s Promissory Note,” at the Ashby BART station. The artwork honors her mother, Mable Howard, who fought to underground BART tracks in the 1960s to protect South Berkeley. The event featured notable speakers and highlighted the Howard family’s lasting contributions to the community.
