Chip in Berkeley

John "Chip" Moore

For Berkeley City Council District 3

A Statement from John "Chip" Moore

We cannot accept violence as a norm in our city. On October 24, 2024, Berkeley Police responded to a shooting in our downtown area, a stark reminder of the urgent need for safety and accountability in our community. I am committed to ensuring that the investigation is thorough, transparent, and fair. The community deserves answers, and the Police Accountability Board will be actively monitoring the process to uphold accountability, protect public trust, and guarantee justice.

I will continue advocating for a comprehensive approach to community safety—one that includes investing in mental health resources, violence prevention programs, and a robust response that addresses the root causes of violence.

My thoughts are with the victim, their loved ones, and all who were affected by this incident. I am grateful to the first responders and police officers who acted swiftly to secure the scene and launch an investigation.

Together, we must create a safer Berkeley where all residents feel secure and supported. I call on city leaders, community organizations, and residents to come together in solidarity and work toward lasting solutions that promote safety, equity, and justice.”
